You Can’t Afford to Give Up on Prayer
So many people have got to the junction of giving up on prayers and resorting to other route.
Prayer in the name of Jesus remains the only means of communication with God. It is still the key opening doors.
I understand you have been praying yet the answers are not forthcoming. It seems as if God is partial and only hears some people’s prayers while He turns deaf ears to your own requests.
There have been days of fasting and prayers in order to fast track the answers but all efforts are proving abortive.
The feeling of emptiness and dissatisfaction refuses to leave you after praying times without number yet God is not saying anything on the steps He will like you to take.
This is not the time to be weary. You cannot afford to give up because the Bible enjoins us to ask until our joy is full.
Jesus on the Importance of Asking until Request is Granted
The lesson is in the story of the widow that kept disturbing a judge until she got justice. Luke 18:2-7.
“2. He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought.
- And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’
- “For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think,
- yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’”
- And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says.
- And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?”
God will not turn deaf ears to your cries. He will answer. All you need to do is to keep asking while making sure you are not doing vain repetition.
I know it can be tiring to keep asking for something for several days, months and years yet no answer.
I’ve been in that situation so I can relate (laughing). Mine got to a point that anger set in.
It can be really annoying asking for something from a person you know has the ability to do it instantly yet decides to withhold the help until you have asked so many times. If it were to be you are dealing with someone you can see physically, I can imagine the outburst of rage (laughing).
We also get to the level that doubts set in.
At the Time, What Did I do?
I spoke out on one of the Christian groups I belong to. Upon asking, other ladies came out to share their experiences then I knew it’s part of the process. When we first believed, we often times get quick answers to our prayers but as we go on in our walk with God, He begins to teach us patience, perseverance, delay gratification and total trust in Him.
When you speak to people of like minds, you will find out that several others have been in that shoe one time or the other and they will be able to share with you the practical steps they took in their situation.
Check Your Motive
James 4:3 says “When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasure”. What is the basis for the prayers? Is the answer meant to spite your critics or to the glory of God. When God blesses you, will it be for you alone or to serve Him and humanity? Don’t forget He looks at the heart, let your intention be right.
Don’t You Think He Has Spoken?
God speaks but sometimes we miss it because as human beings, there is a way we are expecting the answer to be. We often times envisage God’s response forgetting that His ways are not like ours (Isaiah 55:8).
For example, you might be interested in publishing a book and the available fund is not sufficient. You prayed about it asking God for provision and He is asking you to go and borrow. The likely expectation will be that He should provide the money in another way by ministering to some people to bless you with cash. When that is not forthcoming you drop the idea thinking God did not answer.
Do you remember the widow of one of the sons of the prophet that approached Prophet Elisha for help in paying back the debt of her husband; 2 Kings 4:1-3. In verse 3 of the chapter, the instruction came “Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbors…(KJV)”. Her miracle started when she took the first step of asking her neighbors for help regarding containers.
If God is leading you in this direction, prayerfully take the step at the end of the day, you will see the good God had in mind. Just make sure you are faithful to the repayment plan.
God is Speaking, but I Can’t Hear!
It can be painful when one desires to hear the other person speaks and there is a distortion in the communication process.
Have you experienced a situation whereby you are trying to speak with someone over the phone or few distance and he or she couldn’t hear because of barriers that could be technological or environmental?
We can deduce that God also feels bad when He wants to speak to us His children and they can’t hear Him. As a parent, you won’t be happy if your child doesn’t recognize your voice when you call.
The situation is more frustrating when you desire to hear God quickly on an issue and you couldn’t because there has been no prior relationship up to that level.
It’s time for training friend. It is time to tarry in His presence until you hear that still small voice.
The help of the Holy Spirit is required to succeed here on earth and be able to make it to heaven on the last day.
You can’t afford to miss out on instructions that require prompt actions.
When it is not Time
One of the things that our walk with God will teach is that some answers are for an appointed time. The vision is for an appointed time Habakkuk 2:3
While waiting for the appointed time to come, keep faith alive, keep praying and be busy doing other productive things.
Getting Others to Pray Along With You
This way, burden is shared. You are not doing anything wrong when you get people to pray with you on an issue. when others are praying along with you, don’t go to sleep thinking you can contract others to pray for you and await God’s answer through them. As they are praying, you also pray.
The word of encouragement today is a call to prayers.
Tarry in the place of prayer until the cloud like the size of a man’s hand appears.
Prayer also helps to speed up the process.
